Pet Portraits

Hey bloggers looks like mom forgot to show you the paintings she's been doing. We have to show them off because most of them are of us. :) Keva's is coming next she had to finish the one of the lab (his name is Dozer) first because it's a birthday gift. There's also a new one just added of a brittany mix named Nike. Ours are of the season's - Killer's is summer, Nebo's is winter, Skya's is spring, and Keva's will be autumn.

If anyone is interested in a portrait she'd love to do one for you - and 10% of the profits will go to Arctic Breed Rescue (in Utah - great local rescue). Here's her pet portraits website.

We've been enjoying some gorgeous autumn weather and colorful leaves lately. We convinced mom to actually get our photos up during the season they were taken, so here are our pics! The first one was a hike and only two of us went because mom was by herself and four is a bit much.

On Saturday we participated in Arctic Breeds Rescue's "Ididarace" it was a lot of fun!

Then we stopped at Bridal Veil Falls on the way home to enjoy the scenery

Woo bloggers, we finally have our snow...it's a winter wonderland of ice! Mom says the freezing cold is a bit much, she could live without her doors frozen shut, but freezing cold also means the snow doesn't melt...we just like the snow, she likes the fact that the yard isn't pure mud. Happiness all around I guess!

I wanted to dedicate this post to our good friend, "Phred." I've been on a forum, Pet Talk, for years; its grown to be more of a family than a just a forum. Nebo and I (the rest of the pups weren't around yet) went to Ohio a couple of times to Pet Talk meetings and met some great people. One of those people was Phred. You couldn't find a nicer, more generous guy if you tried. He'd do anything for any pet lover. He helped us more times than I can remember, and I could always count on him to put a smile on my face. I know he's being mobbed by all our beloved pets at the RB right now, and I'm sure he has a pocket full of cookies to share. Miss you Phred.

Woo everyone, mom has been reading a new book from National Geographic - Dog Tips from Dogtown. If you don't know, Dogtown is in the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah. Mom volunteered there once, its a great place. This new book is a relationship manual for you and your dog. If you are looking to adopt a new family member it gives great advice to picking the pup that is right for you. If you already have a dog also gives great advice to working with your dog from simple manners to dealing with behavioral issues. Who better to get dog advice from than those who have worked with thousands of rescued dogs from all backgrounds and breeds? They know their stuff, check it out anywhere books are sold. :)

Hey everyone, its my Birthday! Well, actually it was yesterday, mom didn't get a chance to post then, but I'll forgive her....maybe...perhaps I will eat something of hers, that ought to even it out. I'm four years old and still as beautiful as ever!

And since mom was a super slacker with the blog this year, Happy Birthday to Nebo in May, he turned 8, Happy Birthday to Skya in june, she turned 2, and Happy Birthday to Killer in july, he turned 5.

We huskies are jealous that Killer gets to be off leash chasing birds. Mom doesn't trust us off leash, I don't know why, something about us being huskies and chasing Keva down canyons a couple of times...

Snowshoeing and dogsledding

Here are some more pictures from various winter adventures. We went snowshoeing for the first time, which was great, we love dragging humans through snowy landscapes. Mom said we should have had a sled instead of snowshoes for how much we were pulling.

Woo everyone, mom has been reading this book and she wanted us to let all of you know about it! It's called DOGTOWN: Tales of Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Redemption. If you have ever watched the hit National Geographic show "Dogtown" this is the companion book to it.

It is based on the Dogtown area of the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah. It tells of dogs that have been rescued and rehabilitated as well as some personal stories of the dogtown caregivers. If you've heard of the Michael Vick dogs there's a story about Georgia, a pit bull who was one of the Vick dogs taken to Best Friends where she's given a second chance. Our mom actually volunteered at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary last summer and said it was a great experience. Anyway, if you're looking for a Christmas gift for a dog lover or just a good book to read check it out, its available wherever books are sold, and it's husky approved. ;)

Woo everyone! Yesterday was my birthday! I'm three years old now, mom thinks maybe I'll decide to act like a grown up dog now, I don't know what she's talking about, I'm full grown. My dog and human friends came over and we played in the yard until we were covered in mud. Yeah mom was real happy at the fact that it was raining and the yard was muddy...I thought it was great!

Every year we go to a cool event called Strut Your Mutt. It's a big gathering of dogs (and their humans) and its lots of tail-wagging fun. The goal is to raise funds to help homeless pets so we always try our best to raise money for it.

Last weekend we went to Arizona! We're not sure why the humans would possibly want to leave this great cold weather, but we came along anyway. We are good road trip dogs, we just sleep or look out the window...

I'm very happy to be home! My big sis was happy to see me too, she kept an eye on me while I was not feeling well.

I feel much better today. So better in fact I managed to squeeze out of the back door while mom was letting Syd in. I wanted to play with Nebo and Keva! I don't know why mom won't let me, she's so mean, we have a bunch of new snow and she won't even let me play in it! I managed to get in a lap around the yard with the other two before she caught me. Isn't there a law against not letting huskies play in the snow? First I had to go to the V-E-T and now she won't let me run and play? I had to go outside in the front yard (while Nebo and Keva played in the back!) on a leash!

The only good thing about all this is I have a new toy

Mom seems to think that throwing a stuffed snowman in the house will substitute for playing in the snow. Not even close!

She did redeem herself a little by making us some of Steve and Kat's Wooscotti! You can find the recipe at their blog (Washington Woos) in our blog list. Thank you for the great recipe! Mom burnt it a little and we didn't have any carob but it still tasted great!

Our Christmas!

Woo woo to all of you! We hope you had a great Christmas! Here are some pics from ours!

I LOVE opening presents. I left them alone until Christmas morning, when that time came it was shredding time! It doesn't matter what name it says on the package, if its under the tree then it must be for me!

Of course the other two helped (I did a fine job by myself though)

I picked out a squeaky candy cane as my favorite toy. As you will see with our Christmas loot photo, there was no lack of toys. Since it was my favorite, that sneaky Keva wanted it too. Mom captured photos of her stealing it from me.

Our mom takes us to her work pretty often, usually we just get to hang out or play with my buddy Shiloh. Not this day...this was from last month...I hear rumors it will be happening again soon too. Any advice on getting out of this torture? I've tried rolling in some good smelling stuff outside, hoping that would be a pleasant enough odor to prolong the baths, but that seems to make them come sooner.

Nebo went first, he's too good about it, doesn't even make a sound of protest. Sometimes I worry he may even enjoy it.

We also went to some costume contests. I was a prisoner (mom said it was awfully appropriate after I chewed up the remote and her PS2 controller...I just think I look good in stripes), Nebo was a police officer (he's the obedient one, well as obedient as a husky gets), and Skya was a skeleton (because she has no guts...get it? It was easier to find than a chicken suit). Nebo and I took second place!

Skya's First Camping Trip

These are from about a month ago, the pathetic human is slacking again, but what can you do. We went on a camping trip...it was Skya's first, but we've been on many camping trips, we love the outdoors! I think you can tell from these pictures that she enjoyed herself and so did we!

In Memory of Anna

It's hard to believe I'm posting this, but sweet Anna has joined her beagle sister Rosie at the bridge. We've known Anna since she was adopted so many years ago by Rachel and her family. We met her in Ohio a few years ago and she was every bit as sweet and beautiful in person as she is in the pictures. We will miss her dearly, and send our love to Anna's family.

It was especially effective because it was my Birthday...mom can't be mad at me on my Birthday! :D It was right before my party too, lots of dogs were coming over so they did a make-shift repair...I think it looked much better the way it was before, they didn't even match the boards!

I also took advantage of it being my Birthday to create some art. I don't destroy dog toys, but this was a kid toy left in my reach, totally fair game. I think it looks more artistic this way, don't ya think?

Nebo here, we wanted to post some pics from our other hikes. The first one was from back in August, mom is a bit delayed as usual, the other was from a few weeks ago. We LOVE hiking! Squirrels and deer and all sorts of critters to chase...well, at least want to chase (stupid leashes).

I have to look back to make sure the humans are still coming...they have to practically drag themselves up the trail, its pathetic really...

Shortly after that picture Keva got loose and went tearing down the mountain. You should have seen the humans going crazy, it was really quite entertaining. We ran down the trail (honestly I didn't think people were capable of running that fast!) and finally caught up with her. Keva just figured mom needed a little exercise...we huskies have to keep them on their toes of course.

Remembering Rosie

Recently a good friend of ours passed away...her name was Rosie. Mom has "known" Rosie through her mom Rachel from the time she was a little pup.

In 2003 Nebo even went on a road trip to Ohio and met Rosie and her husky sister Anna

It's Keva, mom said I should post these photos to warn all the other dogs. All flying or jumping insects...ok or crawling for that matter...are potential snacks. I try to eat as many as possible. Moths are especially tasty, I jump in the air to get at them. However watch out for the flying black and yellow ones...whenever I eat one of those this happens:

I always get a gob of cheese when this happens, don't know why (is mom hiding something in it?), but it seems to help. So I think all humans should feed dogs cheese daily as a preventative measure. Nebo approves of that too.

Walk, Wag, N' Swim

Since we weren't invited to the Sheepdog Competition we went to this neat event...this is the pool party mentioned in our introduction. When this pool gets ready to close for the season for humans, they open it up for DOGS! How cool is that? Well it'd be cooler if they just let dogs swim in it all the time, but we'll take what we can get. We went with our friends Cisco and Freyja! Here we are on the dog walk before the pool party:

Nebo just jumped right in...then swam to the other side and couldn't figure out how to get out...mom had to save him *snicker*

Soldier Hollow Sheepdogs

About a month ago the human went to the Soldier Hollow Sheepdog competition...Splash Dogs was also there. We were not invited, something about distracting the working dogs...we wouldn't have been a distraction...we would have helped! Well, by help I mean we would have chased the sheep...dunno about getting them into the pen and around the gates and all that. But those sheep would have been running! And we probably would have eaten the ducks too, but don't tell the humans that. Anyway, mom thinks its great to watch dogs do what they were originally bred to do, so why hasn't she bought us a sled yet? Well, here's the pics of the herding competition:

Hey Skya here...since the other pups had a whole blog about their Timpanogos adventure I get a blog all to myself too! I learned a new trick--spin--it makes me a little dizzy but hey if there's food involved I'm all for it. My new nickname is Squeaky Magoo...because I like to go around with a squeak toy in my mouth squeaking it non-stop. I dunno where the Magoo comes in, I think mom is just weird. Hiking Mt Timpanogos

So we would have updated sooner but mom is really slow at uploading pictures to the net...seriously, I think a turtle would have had it done faster. Anywoo these are from JULY (shameful isn't it?) when we hiked Mt Timpanogos in Utah. Skya didn't live here then and she wouldn't have made it anyway, so it was just the adult huskies. We did invite our friends Shilo the husky and Travi the border collie mix too.

Introduction

Wooooo let me introduce myself first, since I am cutest and all. I'm Keva, I'm a siberian husky, and I'm almost 2 years old. Mom says I'm small for a husky, which I think just makes me cuter. Plus I have extra tail fluff to make up for it. I've been told I'm a NAW-TEE dog sometimes, I'm not sure what that means...I'm just being a husky. What, they didn't the trees pruned and the yard landscaped? They just don't appreciate my skills.

I love to talk, I have a dinnertime song and a bathtime song, mom really doesn't appreciate the bathtime song (I try to make it as obnoxious as possible). I have faith she will eventually give up and stop giving me monthly baths. She says thats what she does for a living so its not going to happen, but one can try, right? I have this great way of getting out of trouble...take note...when you've been a bad dog, immediately roll on your back, give your best puppy dog eyes, and wag your tail like crazy. Adding a cute little woo woo helps too. Works every time! I love people, they exist to feed me and rub my belly. I love to kiss them unsuspectingly, especially right in the face, I'm a pro at it. I love other dogs too, I have lots of friends, I'll introduce them later. For now I suppose I have to give the spotlight over to the big dog, Nebo.

I'm Nebo, I'm also a siberian husky, and I'm 6 years old. Apparently I started this whole siberian husky pack, mom doesn't seem to know how to just have one. Though I hate to admit it, I do enjoy the other two. I have a reputation to keep up though, I try to not let mom catch me on camera playing with the puppy. Mom says I'm a good boy, I'm content to just relax most of the day. She calls me her "fake husky" I'm not sure what that means, but she refers to Keva as the "real husky." I'm quiet, and sweet, I do occasionally help Keva with the tree pruning, but I never dig holes. I don't even rip up toys, I love my toys.

My favorite thing in the world is cheese. Just say that word and I'll be there. Besides that, I love to go hiking. It's my element. I don't talk as much as Keva, I prefer growling. Mom thinks its funny that I growl and moan when anybody hugs me. She keeps forgetting about me keeping up a reputation, I'm not a sissy momma's boy for heaven's sake! Oh, and mom thinks its silly that I have a favorite toy I bring to bed every night. Like she didn't bring toys to bed when she was 6 years old, sheesh. I suppose the little white alligator dog wants to get a word in too...

I'm Skya, I have blue eyes and a fuzzy tail so I guess that makes me a siberian husky too? I've only been here a few weeks, a nice lady came into my mom's work with me and my siblings and my mom couldn't say no so I came home. She keeps telling people she's officially crazy now, I don't know why she'd say that. Is it crazy to have three adorable huskies? I'm cute and I know it. Mom says I think I'm a big dog. Who says I'm small? I walk all over Keva! I know how to sit and shake...and chew...and dig...and howl...yep, definitely all husky! Until I'm a little older I get to go to work with mom every day. I love car rides, I climb right in when the door opens. I keep trying to free mom from that funny belt she's strapped in while she's driving, but she never lets me chew through it, so I work at pulling up the fuzz on the seats instead. Always helpful!

Hey don't I even get a mention? I'm Sydney the schnauzer, and I'm 6 years old. I don't belong to the same person as the crazy huskies, but I live in the same house. I guess that makes me an honorary husky. Not that I want to be a husky...I'm perfectly content being a schnauzer thank-you-very-much. Those huskies aren't good for anything anyway...pathetic guard dogs, they don't even bark at the door! They don't guard the yard by barking at anything either. I don't shed, I'm small, and I don't dig. Why would anyone want a husky when they could have a schnauzer? I'm the diva of the house and I expect to be treated accordingly.
